Edu-K is an educational approach that aims to help explore one’s own way of learning and to develop oneself. It uses muscle monitoring and self-noticing to guide balances designed to help you finding and using your own potential to its greatest extent. There is no single predetermined solution or answer. Each session helps to integrate your physiological, physical and emotional components to best tap into your potential in working towards any of the tasks/projects/goals you may have.
Originally interested in correcting learning disabilities, educational therapist Paul Dennison has been working towards improving learning since 1969. His work has been inspired by nurturing aspects of research done by many developmental specialists [e.g. dance, yoga, Alexander technique, Shiatsu, Cranio sacral, Chinese medicine, Touch for Health, pedagogy (Montessori, A. Gesell), sensory integration (J Ayres), multiple intelligences theory (H Gardner), behavioral optometry, primitive reflexes (dynamic and postural) (S. Masgutova)] and incorporates these various approaches, as well as brain dynamics, movement and the body’s response to stress.
Using these various approaches, Paul and his wife Gail have developed an innovative technique to facilitate learning: Brain Gym®, and the field of what is now known as Educational Kinesiology (usually called Edu-K). Of the many worldwide branches of Kinesiology, Edu-K is the most extensively used.
Edu-K offers these practical tools:
- Brain Gym® (simple, precise and effective movements and exercises that stimulate communication between the left and right, top and bottom, and front and back parts of the brain)
- A variety of more complex programs and protocols based on the brain’s organisation profile (BOP), on vision (vision circle), on dimensions of intelligence (in Depth), etc.
